Tip Tuesday - Microsoft OneNote
Tip Tuesday this week we take a look at Microsoft OneNote. This is a built in Microsoft app which has made my work life ridiculously more organised since starting to use it 3 years ago.
It’s a note taking app that can be organised into divided categories; section groups, sections and pages. If you have ever used a Pukka pad (other note pages are available!) then think of it like having one of those only digital, and that the dividers each have sub dividers within then and then the pages!
For example in my previous sales role I had a section group dedicated to my clients, within that section group I had a sections for each specific client, and within that I had a page for each entry about them, whether that be general overview information through to meeting notes each time I saw them.
Lets get some visuals on the go:
Here is what a notebook with subsections, sections and pages looks like
As you can see we have a heading for clients, within that we have a section for client A and within that we have two pages one for contact and overview information which is what you can see above and one for a meeting note.
Using OneNote helped me to stay organised whilst I was travelling the country for a sales role. It was my second brain, it held all my client information, products information, how to guides, all the way do to travel information and handy things such as knowing which were the nice hotels near offices I visited frequently!
Because it links to OneDrive everything was backed up so it was available across all my devices, which included my iPad so I could take notes in meetings straight into OneNote and that would be available immediately across all my devices. And better still, if you have a team notebook with one or more collaborators updates are in real time over the cloud so there’s no delay in team members seeing updates!
This is just a snap shot overview, but the best way to get to know OneNote is hands on. There are video tutorials available from Microsoft here
Happy OneNote building!
