Tip Tuesday - Scanning documents with your phone

This weeks Tip Tuesday we are looking at how you can use your phone to help with scanning documents at home. As the National Lockdown continues many of us are juggling working from home with home schooling, and sooner or later you have something that you need to scan whether that be a document or a piece of homework that needs to be sent on.

Instead of having to fork out for a scanner you can use your phone to scan documents. Today we are looking at Apple Notes app, but this idea works the same with most note taking apps that you can download to your devices. Another favourite at EC Support is GoodNotes (it’s a paid for app but allows you to export PDFs… we’ll be covering that in a future Tip Tuesday!)

Open the Notes app on your phone

Click the icon for a new note

You will have your keyboard appear with a menu above it, select the camera icon

Select scan documents

Scan your document (is especially good if you can place the document against a contrasting surface)

You will have a yellow box appear with grid lines in to help you line up the document

The app when held steady will then take a picture of sorts of the document.

This will then appear in the notes app, you can either do this to store here and then you have the ability to write notes underneath if needed

If you just need to send the scan you can then click the sharing icon in the top right hand corner

Select your mail app

And voila you have it ready to send on.

You can also share the full note with scans and text if you need to, following the same steps but instead of clicking on the scan item to share hit the share button from the note screen! You will get the same sharing options as above.

I hope this helps with your home schooling and work juggling! Good luck!
