Tip Tuesday - Outlook inbox rules

It's Tip Tuesday today it's all about your inbox rules...

Never used Outlook rules for your emails? - It's time to, Outlook will undertake set actions you tell it to when certain parameters are met, meaning that you can get rid of the manual sorting!

What does this mean... let's say you get a daily update email, you don't need to respond but you need to file for reference, every day you drag and drop that email into a folder. If you tell outlook it will do that for you and will put a notification marker next to the folder and bold the folder title making it easy for you to see when this has happened without the need for the manual action.

To set this up, select the email that you want this rule to apply to and go to your tool bar at the top of outlook and select rules, you have some prescribed options already, or you can select create rule. Set your parameters and hey presto you have a rule in place.

If you need to edit the rule because it's not behaving quite how you want go up to your toolbar and select rules and select edit and you will be able to see the rule you have created.

This is also super handy if you have a lot of junk emails that are getting missed by the spam filter, you can set up a rule for a specific word to be recognised and binned!
